I was actually delighted and a little surprised when Ms Chua Sock Koong took the job of top woman at SingTel. Even though i havent been really following the whole hoo haa of it all, the feminist side of me is inclined to jump around and do a little raa-raa cheer for her :)

I think its really quite inspiring to all women out there, really - kind of my role model and inspiration too. I mean, i cant even begin to fathom the kind of things she does - the scale of operations, the breadth and width of thought. WOW. kudos to her.

And guess what? She graduated from University of Singapore with first class honours in Accountancy. :P

" Chua Sock Koong, CEO International/Group CFO, SingTelMs Chua, 48, joined SingTel in June 1989 as Treasurer. She has served as Chief Financial Officer since April 1999 and has overall responsibility for the financial functions at SingTel, including treasury and risk management. Ms Chua was appointed CEO International in February 2006. She is responsible for strategic acquisition, international business and SingTel's regional associates. As Group CFO, she continues to oversee Group Finance and Corporate Affairs. Ms Chua holds a Bachelor of Accountancy (First Class Honours) from University of Singapore. She is a Certified Public Accountant with the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Singapore and a Chartered Financial Analyst. "
