Yesterday when I was cycling along Bedok South Road something freaky happened. A tall guy with a white beard and a 6th finger approached me and seemed to be saying something to me. But I have no idea what. I almost stopped to listen but it was dark and I was quite freaked out so pfsshh forget it, just cycle and pretend he's a madman. hahaha :P

Last night, I had those dreams again. This time I was in China (somewhere - either Beijing or Shanghai I'm not sure. But the city didn't look familiar so it might be Suzhou or something) and again I checked into some hotel and while I was sitting in a taxi I got a text message saying we could meet up.

Then my mum rushed in to wake me up for CAT midterms today, hahaha.. yes anti-climax I know. The internet doesnt work at home so i'm relegated to studying in school all the time now. Scheisse.

Oh, I decided to create a German blog. All posts with corresponding German versions will be indicated with the link at the bottom.

It should also have an auto-archiving feature, with a sidebar to browse the articles I have saved according to topic, according to date.

i had spg dreams last night.

one was really a *sigh* dream, and the other i stole diamonds from the russian kgb and boris yeltsin and ran halfway around the world to sydney to hide. when i finally couldnt take the people chasing me to my death part, i went back to return it to him and he scoffed at it and said he would take the diamond back but i still have to be punished.

or something along those lines. haha.. think its the effect of having too much sleep. 6 hours nap yesterday from 2pm to 8pm, then 9 hours sleep from 3am to 12 noon. hahaha

i'm a little worried about the melting arctic ice caps. Of course the concern is that you know Singapore will be flooded over by all that new sea water, but the bigger thing to note is that now, ships from China and Japan to Europe just found a new route.

That means bypassing Singapore. Oh oh. Maybe we'll not be number 1 port anymore. maybe we'll lose our position of importance.

Ok i have a tonne of shit to do and i'm trying to get started on my readings for TAX PLANNING about indirect vs direct taxes but i could not resist posting about this.

I'm sure some of you have heard of the new CPF annuity scheme. Suck out some money from your CPF minimum sum (which is already pretty ridiculous in the first place - having a minimum sum but thats not the point of the debate today), use it to buy an annuity once you're past 50 and this annuity will pay out when you reach 85. Yes that's right, EIGHTY-FIVE YEARS OLD. It'll pay out about $300 a month until you die.

First of all, how much can you do with $300 a month?!?!?!?! It barely pays for anything. And considering our GST rates (looking set to raise to about 15% by the time I'm 85, hurhur) and inflation, that's barely enough money to tide us by. If that's the case, then why bother with this annuity in the first place? This pittance isn't going to save us.

Second, and I think most importantly, HOW many Singaporeans live till the age of 85. Yes we do have an ageing population. But, lets just take some data from the monthly census that singstat carries out. As of end June 2006, the number of Singaporeans 85 and older are a grand whooping total of 24,600. That's like, 0.55% of our population. Now I wonder how many lucky people can get to live to that age. I seriously doubt, even with the increased lifespan and all that, that most of us are even lucky enough to reach 85.

Even with so-called "better healthcare", how much longer do you think humans are built to live? 100? 120? 150? We're not machines, we wear and tear. we were never built to live that long. And living that long does not also equate to a high quality long life. Going by how hospital beds are shortaging and healthcare costs rising, I don't see myself at 85 living a healthy life taken care by my polyclinic doctor. I wonder how many of that 24,600 old people about age of 85 are actually healthy elderly citizens living their lives fully. Most probably, a lot are in old folks home, ridden with illness. My grandma herself, at one year short of 80, has had 2 major surgeries and complains of various aches and pains. And mind you, she is considered starking fit compared to her peers her age.

More likely, 99.4% of us will si kiao kiao by the time we reach 85. So I wonder, where does that $300 per month payout go to when that happens? Who actually benefits from this annuity?

Today, we learnt in FT that the colour of your shoes should match the colour of your bag.

So this means, I either have to get new shoes, to go with my awesome blug bag; or new bag, to go with my awesome azure shoes!

yoohoo!

completed the shape run today. yeah lah i know only 5km hahaha but it's a first attempt for me and hopefully i can do longer distances next time =)

this week will be a cheonging week for me - want to cheong dieting and exercising! see where that takes me.. i hate my flabby arms, want to get rid of those. and i also cut my hair haha looking super jap now. this weeks gonna be busy man - with argali, tax project and OM stuff to settle finish. hope it all goes well.

What is the significance of the number on Big Pony polos?

hello!!


i'm sorry for the long absence, just that 2 weeks of school has really taken a toll on me. Still have a very very long list of things to do and other funny things that stress me out.


But anyways, a quick update:

Bourne Ultimatum with Ginny and her brother hehe. Sadly, our favourite paragon cafe was closed. damn.
Carwashing with Argali people aka Indians! We raised quite a lot of money. hehe. Maybe I should do this too.
@ Lingsze's birthday party. Oops, bday girl is not in this picture! She's probably off somewhere entertaining.. hehe.
With A+ Berent!!! So sad, he left this morning for his 7 + 7 hour flight back to Frankfurt. Bah. I'm gonna miss him. :(

Oh, I have a new plan. I want to start a "Send Yen Han to Europe" fund and it will culminate in me setting up a booth along the concourse on my 21st birthday soliciting donations from everyone. I will have stickers too like flag day! Watch this space for updates!
