Wednesday, November 28, 2007 I realise I like piano-bands. *waves to shili and her band* Maybe it's because of my early years training in classical music that somehow gravitates my ear to that familiar sound. Coldplay, Keane, Muse and now Melee, as introduced by Yanti. I like the opening strains on the keyboard of Built to Last :) Although I'm not so fond of the waving in-and-out kind of singing voice.. it sounds a little synthetic, definitely processed with some kind of synthesiser. The lead's voice could do without it though, it sounds strong enough. In fact, it seems like keyboard bands have all along been the trend of British bands and only now is the (un)discerning American audience finally catching on. Maybe it's cos American boys never grew up learning piano - too girly for them. They do manly stuff like build treehouses and play baseball, haha. p.s. and no, shili or ha thi.. this has nothing to do with that matchmaking you're trying to set me up with.. p.p.s. I found the reason to my insomnia. 3 x Panadol Extra tablets. Each table = 65mg of caffeine. SIXTY FIVE MG!?!? no wonder I cant sleep lah. Until now I'm not sleepy can. p.p.p.s. I didn't do that Corp R recap that I promised to do in the end. Was bumming around in my room watching simpsons instead. That explains the rather chui showing at the exams today :/ Actually, I like most types of music. Thanks to my musicmeister Siewj, who's been feeding me with oldies as obscure as John Legend to new sounds like Portishead; familiar favourites like Tracy Chapman and even a dash of J-pop. And I pretty much lap it all up. Most music is music to my ears. However, to qualify as good music, I have 2 criteria, the first being the most important: 1) It must have a beat. Rhythm. Something tap-worthy, jigga-licious, hum-alongable or head-bopping. Rhythm and beats are very important criteria for good music to me. This also explains why I had a secret liking for trance and techno music when I was in secondary school - a liking I daren't show in front of my atas secondary school friends. Like scully they think I'm so ah lian you know. So I went out and bought Best of Trance 200X (can't remember the X!) and I recall enjoying it in the privacy of my own bedroom... Haha. Now, having been to European clubs which play that kind of music every night, I know that my music tastes aren't as trashy as I used to think they were :P Oh and the second criteria: 2) Melody. I mean like a normal, understandable, workable melody. Sad to say, stuff like Bjork, Eric Serra (from Le Grand Bleu) or the whole soundtrack of La marche l'empereur fit into neither rhythm nor melody. I mean, random playing of notes on the keyboard is not melody. So despite how Alex claims Le Grand Bleu to be the best french film of all time, with an award-winning soundtrack, it's (both the movie and the soundtrack) not for me. I mean, movies I dont really know much about but I think I can tell my good music from my plain bad/boring music. So...Out it goes from my iTunes! Mrs Brightside at 4:41 pm {xoxo}
